Shield Argent a throughout aqueduct Gules, on chief an inescutcheon Or charged with mitre Azure adorned Argent, superimposing military trophies, such as flags, cannons and muskets, all Gules, base parted by three barrulets wavy Azure. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "ASSUNÇÃO, AJUDA, SALVADOR E SANTO ILDEFONSO".
Meaning:
The trophies are referring to the star-shaped fortress of Elvas and its strong fortifications. The mitre is alluding to the fact, that Assunção had been seat of a bishopric. It was formerly known as Sé. The aqueduct is a representation of the local aqueduct of Armoreira. It took centuries, until it had been finished. The barrulets wavy are a representation of the Guadiana River.
