El Fuerte took the upper-right section of the coat of arms of the State, which is inspired by the shield of Marqués de Montesclaros, by including the halfmoon with the points facing down and brightness which is projected from the fort; the fort being the translation of the city’s name, this section is bordered in white with El Fuerte in blackletter below. Below the fort are two arrow heads and tips, with the body of an arrow in the middle signifying clashes by Indians. Emerging behind the top of the fort’s tower is a cloud.
