To quote the Lithuanian Heraldry Commission on Facebook, "It is a canting arms. The name of the place derives from the personal name Avižienis, which in turn derives from the word 'aviža'. Lithuanian word 'aviža' means 'oat'." The symbols were designed by Rolandas Rimkūnas and the coat of arms was approved by presidential decree on July 21, 2023
