Introduction of Herlev Municipality

Herlev is located in the Northwest of Greater Copenhagen (Storkøbenhavn). The village is some 700 years old and consisted mainly of the villages of Herlev proper and Hjortespring. The municipality remained unchanged by the reforms of 2007.

Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a gridiron Argent, at sinister Argent a roe forcene Gules.
Meaning:
>The gridiron is an attribute of St. Lawrence, patron saint of the parish church of Herlev. The roe is a canting element and representing Hjortespring, which means "jump of the roe". The version on flag is simplified as follows: the roe is not garnished black. The gaps of the gridiron have been reduced from four to three. The sinister half of the shield is cotised white-red.
