Brief History

Name: Sächsischer Elbe-Regattaverein e.V.
Located in: Dresden
Established: 8 July 1886 as "Dresdner Regattaverein"
The first amateur boat race (regatta) in Dresdner took place on 16 September 1883. As organising races was to expensive for the local rowing clubs, on 18 July 1886 "Dresdner Regattaverein" was established. It became a member of Deutscher Ruderverband (DRV) on 20 November 1886.
On 5 February 1894 the club was renamed to "Sächsischer Regattaverein" (SRV). It organised races on the Elbe River between Pirna and Riesa. Various members of the Saxonian royal family became executive sponsors of the club, among them in 1892 Crown Prince Friedrich August, later being the last King of Saxony since 1904. A few royals learned rowing in 1905 as members of Dresdner RV.

On 21 February 1930 the SRV merged with "Mittel-Elbe-Regatta Verband" (MERV), an off spring of SRV. After the merger the name was "Sächsischer Elbe-Regatta-Verband" (SERV). In 1945 the club was banned.

On 6 February 2002 the club was re-established as "Sächsischer Elbe-Regattaverein e.V." (SERV)

All flags were 6-stripes flags, horizontally dived by alternating white and green stripes, the colours of Saxony. They differed only by canton:
"Sächsischer Regattaverein" (SRV): On white canton was a golden inscription "SRV" under a royal crown proper (see left image above).
"Sächsicher Elbe-Regatta-Verband" (SERV): On white canton was a golden inscription "SERV" under a royal crown proper (see central image above).
"Sächsischer Elbe-Regattaverein e.V." (SERV): On white canton was a green inscription "SERV" under a yellow isosceles triangle (see right image above).
