Flag

Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over white horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted to the hoist.
Description of coat of arms:
The blue field is divided by a silver(=white) cross. A red wheel with 5 spokes is superimposing the intersection point of crossbars.
Meaning:
According to Veddeler 2003, p.130 the cross had been black in a silver(=white) field, the cross of the archbishopric and electorate of Köln, which had been also heirs of the counts of Arnsberg. Though blue and white had been traditional colours of died out Arnsberg kin, in this case the colours had been established in 1902 by Prussian government referring to the traditional colours. The wheel is taken from the arms of former municipality of Mönninghausen.
