Shield Azure, a swan statant Argent armed Or on top of a mount issuant Vert, chief parted per fess embattled of Sable and Argent.
Meaning:
The current municipality was established on 1 May 1978 by a merger of Schwand Market Town and Leerstetten Municipality. The former was first mentioned in 1186, the latter in 1194. The punning swan is taken from a court seal of Schwand from 1468. The name is alluding to forest clearance by fire in the Medieval (local language: schwenden, which literally means: making disappear (the forest)). The line of partition is canting for "Stetten", a fortified settlement. The colours black and white on chief are those of the Burgraves of Nürnberg, local rulers since 1267, and the Margraves of Ansbach as their successors.
