Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) field is a black eagle, armed and tongued red. Upon his breast is a black inescutcheon tierced golden (=yellow).
Meaning:
According to source the eagle is alluding to the existence of the imperial domain (German: Reichshof) of Elmenhorst within the city's boundaries. The inescutcheon is taken from the arms of the Lords von der Goy, who owned numerous real estates around Waltrop in the 15th and 16th century.
