Marxzell Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a winged lion passant Or.
Meaning:
In 1971 the municipalities of Burbach, Pfaffenrot and Schielberg merged. They adopted the name of a settlement in centre of the municipalities, which was divided between them. The monasterial settlement was first mentioned in 1255 as "Celle", being the garmet of the peopling of the surrounding woods. The church of that settlement had been the parish church for the three former municipalities. Referring to its patron saint St. Mark the settlement was renamed and appeared as Marckzell, i.e. the cell of St. Mark, for the first time in 1502. The winged eagle is the attribute of the saint. The tinctures are those of Baden.
