Shield Gules a lion rampant Or supporting an embattled tower Argent masoned Sable.
Meaning:
In 837 parts of the village were donated to the Benedictine Fulda Imperial Abbey. A local fortress was first mentioned in 1323, which had been ancestral seat of the Counts of Henneberg, who ceded the village to the Burgraves of Nürnberg. In 1374 it was acquired by the Wettin kin. Beneath the castle e settlement developed, which gained city rights in 1387 and had a council and the low level cognisance since 1396. In the 16th century city walls were built. Between 1680 and 1826 the city had been part of the Duchy of Sachsen-Hildburghausen, between 1826 and 1918 of the Duchy of Sachsen-Meiningen. The pattern was displayed on local seals from 1431 and 1576, is however probably older. The lion probably is alluding to the local rulers. Another version of the arms displayed the tower as golden, the lion as barry of red and white and the background tinctures as blue. Those arms are the arms of Thüringen with an additional tower, probably alluding to the fortress. Heldburg is the seat of Heldburger Unterland.

Shield Or, a brew-bucket Sable and a rake of the same in saltire, in base a tower quartered of Argent and Gules.
Meaning:
The tools had been taken from a decoration on the local church. The image showed a kind of rake and an unidentified tool. The latter was replaced by the brew-bucket, a tool used by beer brewers. It is symbolising the right to brew beer, which was granted to the village in 1714. The tower is representing the tower of the local estate. Its tinctures are taken from the family arms of the Lords of Schott, who finished a moated castle in 1515 and owned the estate for many centuries.

Shield quartered of Or and Azure, two pairs of lions rampant respectant, in quarters 1 and 4 Sable armed and tongued red, in quarters 2 and 3 barry of eight of Argent and Gules.
Meaning:
In 837 local estates were donated to the Benedictine Fulda Imperial Abbey. Ummerstadt was first mentioned in 1223. In 1245 it was administrated by a village mayor, probably on behalf of the Counts of Henneberg. In 1316 it belonged to the counts, in 1317 it was mentioned as a city. In 1353 it was acquired by the Burgraves of Nürnberg as part of the Heldburg district, in 1374 by the Wettin kin, in 1485 by the Electorate of Sachsen, in 1572 by the Duchy of Sachsen-Coburg, in 1640 by the Duchy of Sachsen-Eisenach, in 1645 by the Duchy of Sachsen-Gotha, in 1680 by the Duchy of Sachsen-Hildburghausen, finally in 1826 by the Duchy of Sachsen-Meiningen. The pattern of the arms first appeared on a city seal from the 14th century. The barry lions are those of the Landgraviate of Thüringen. The black lions are those of the Margraviate of Meißen. Margrave Balthasar of Meißen (1336 – 1406), who had also been Landgrave of Thüringen, confirmed the city rights.
