Overview

Translated from <www.desamparados.go.cr>: "The Municipal Council of Desamparados prescribes as the flag of the canton a white flag with a transversal light blue stripe descending from the upper left corner of the flag to the opposed corner, bordered by two thinner golden stripes and charged with the municipal coat of arms in the middle. [...]
[According to research made by Edgardo Jara on the colours identifying the canton in the early years of the XXth century]
The traditional colours of the flag of Desamparados are light blue and white with a much thinner golden stripe. According to interviews of natives of the canton, such as Gabriel Ureña Morales, the light blue and white colours have alwys been arranged transversally, with a separation in gold. Undoubtly, following the destruction and loss of the municipal archives older than 1958, the light blue and white colours were abandoned and replaced by blue and white, without the golden stripe.
The flag is prescribed by Municipal Decree No 6 of Session No 413, hold on 28 August 2007. "
