On 22 October 2006 the communes of Bignasco and Cavergno merged with Cevio to the new commune of Cevio.
The new commune didn't keep Cevio's old emblem and neither introduced a new one. Instead, they
broke away from heraldic tradition and introduced a logo,
to which they attribute a lot of symbolic
content (The flag shows the logo on white, without writing). The three
elements of the logo stand for
the three elements of the landscape: yellow for the sun, green for the land,
blue for the water. The latter marks with its vertical position also the river Maggia which runs
through the valley, roughly in north-south direction.
"This symbol is not inserted in the 'shield' shape, as is usually used", they write, "but is
left free to express lightness, harmony, positivity, color and movement, becoming
the 'flagship' with
which the new generations can identify. The union of the three elements and the three colors expressed in
gentle and harmonious shapes, referring to nature,
symbolizes the union of forces that became reality with
the establishment of the new Municipality."
There is still a historical
reference: "The choice of the 'Bodoni Berthold Light' typeface for the name 'Cevio' favored the civic
aspect also in its historical value." A friendly
civil servant of the commune sent us the flag
