The municipality of Champlain (1,800 inhabitants, 57.6 kmē)
1982,
fusion of the parish of La Visitation-de-Champlain and of the village
municipality of Champlain. Named after Samuel de Champlain, founder of the
New France, who gave his name to the Champlain River in 1632.

The shield, of French shape, is composed of two parts.
The central
part features a ship azure charged with the Christian cross, sailing on
waves made of garbs of wheat or (emblem of the 300th anniversary of the
foundation of the town). This represents navigation on majestic river Saint
Lawrence and the stops made by Samuel de Champlain during his numerous
journeys. Champlain and other seamen, as well, use the mouth of small river
Champlain as a harbor protected from winds and Indians who also sailed on
the big river. Some of these seamen settled on the river bank and became
farmers.
A radiating sun or completely covers the field argent of the
shield, as a symbol of warmth, wealth and pride.
The upper part, a chief
gules (the royal color) represents the King's Road, whose original route
crossed the village of Champlain. The three fleurs-de-lis recalls that the
place belonged to France for 300 years.
The shield is surmounted by
the lettering "Champlain", which deliberately enters the shield's chief,
recalling that the route of the King's Road was modified several times.
The "n" of "Champlain" is shaped like the bay that faces the village. A
peaceful water bird is about to land on the welcoming territory of
Champlain.
The shield is supported by two iris flowered azure and
slipped vert. This ornamental and odoriferous flower is symbol of royal
power and divine protection. The poet's flower is filled with precious
values relevant to Champlain's territory and inhabitants. Moreover, this
plant grow profusely near watercourses.
A scroll gules placed beneath
the shield is charged with the French motto, which reads "Loyal, Tenacious
and Proud".
