Presentation of Velika Kladuša

Flag of Velika Kladuša

The symbols of Velika Kladuša are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opčine Velika Kladuša, adopted on 29 September 1999 by the Municipal Assembly and published in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Velika Kladuša.
The use and protection of the name, of the coat of arms and of the flag of the municipality are prescribed by Decision Odluka o upotrebi i zaštiti imena, grba i zastave Opčine Velika Kladuša, adopted on 31 August 2007 and published in Službeni glasnik Općine Velika Kladuša, No. 5 (text).
Almost the full Decision adopted in 1999 is included, word for word, in Articles 7-13 of the consolidated Municipal Statutes Statut Opčine Velika Kladuša (prečišćeni tekst), adopted on 12 September 2005 by the Municipal Assembly and published in Službeni glasnik Općine Velika Kladuša, No. 9 (text). This is repeated in renumbered Articles 8-14 of the current Municipal Statutes Statut Opčine Velika Kladuša, adopted on 25 October 2007 by the Municipal Assembly and published in Službeni glasnik Općine Velika Kladuša, No. 9 (text).

The flag of Velika Kladuša is in proportions 1:2, light blue with two white horizontal stripes near the bottom. The municipal coat of arms is placed in the upper left corner, its base touching the upper white stripe.

Local communities

Glinica

[Flag] image by Ivan Sache, 6 March 2021

The flag of the local community of Glinica is yellow with the community coat of arms in the center.
The arms of Glinica, unveiled on 19 March 2016, were designed between 2014 and 2016. The shield, in Gothic-Samnite shape, was designed by the Slovene painter Marija Prelog (b. 1954) and the president of the Community Council, the art historian Husein Sejka Mekanovića (b. 1972).

The arms feature natural symbols representing the five villages of Brezovo Polje, Bukovlje, Glinica, Pecka and Poljana. The sun represents the West, recalling that Glinica is located in the extreme North-West of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The sun outlines the silhouette of Glavica, Glinica's highest hill (256 m asl) and the entrance of the cave for which Pecka was named.
A white hawk lived from 2004 to 2011 in Brezovo Polje and Pecka. It flies over the greening pastures, the fields, the forest and river Glinica. The fertile, wide and green valley of the Glinica, until its confluence with river Glina, is a genuine paradise on the earth. The river's meanders form the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
In base, the beech leaf is the symbol of Bukovlje. Year 1211 recalls the oldest mention of river Glinica in a document signed by King of Hungary and Croatia Andrew II (r. 1205-1235).
The white hawk and meandering river Glinica can symbolize the conflict between two old Slavic deities, Perun and Veles. The day thunderbolt Perun triumph over Veles, the underground and water's lord, is celebrated on 2 August, also the community's day, by all Bosnians, whatever their religion.

Podzvizd

Podzvizd is a local community in Velika Kladuša. Its flag is horizontally divided white over red with two narrow white stripes in the top of the red field and the arms near the hoist. It can be seen here:

The flag is a 1:2 horizontal bicolor, with white over red, but at the upper side of the red area there are two thin horizontal stripes, with overall specs of (12-1-1-1-1-8):48. The emblem, vaguely armorial (and termed a coat of arms, officially grb) is placed on a vertical midline off from the hoist about 3/5ths of the flag's height, its tip touching the upper edge of the main red stripe and its top away from the flag's top edge a width roughly the same as two of the thin stripes.

The basic design of this flag seems to have been influenced by that of the municipal flag of encompassing Velika Kladuša, unlike the flags of the two other known local communities - Glinica and Vrnograč.

Detail of arms

The emblem is shield shaped in a lyre-like outline less detailed at the chief than the municipal emblem. It is triply edged in black, white, and red, from the inside out, and could be blazoned thusly: Azure on a mound Vert issuant from the base charged with the date 1334 Argent flanked by two branches Or crossed saltirewise at the base a fortress Argent roofed and open Sable and above it seven estoiles Or archwise and on a chief Gules the word PODZVIZD Argent. The shade of blue is light, lettering is
bold serifed.
