Presentation

A Bolivian Guarani community; the exact Spanish wording is Asemblea del Pueblo Guaraní Itikaguasu, A.P.G.
Ned Smith, 23 Apr 2008

On their emblem, the name of this organization spells its toponym / ethnonym as two words "Itika Guasu", not "Itikaguasu", and that is shown also on the emblem, with the large sigla reading "A.P.G.I.G.".

About the flag

Their flag can be seen online (photo): The photo appears to show a grayish-green, celeste (i.e. light blue), and pink tricolor. I’m not sure how accurate the colors in the photo are, nor where on the spectrum the Bolivian Guarani culture separates orange from pink.
Ned Smith, 23 Apr 2008

Judging from the wee lad also shown on the photo, I'd say that it is a faithful image of a sun bleached flag — unless all shades are purposely pastel. Note also that the middle stripe is clearly thinner than the other two (conjectural specs: (3+2+3):12).
António Martins, 29 Apr 2008

Green, sky blue, and orange, with emblem. Trusting the photo, the central stripe is wavy. The emblem was clearly added to the photo image.
António Martins, 22 Jun 2008

The exact Spanish wording is (my translation):

Nuestra bandera tiene una franja verde, otra es celeste y la última es de color anaranjado, El verde es el campo, la naturaleza, el celeste el río Pilcomayo de Itikaguasu, el anaranjado representa la tierra.
Our flag has a green stripe, another one is sky blue and the last one is orange. The green stands for the field, the nature; sky blue stands for the Pilcomayo river of Itikaguasu, the orange represents the Earth.

Actually photographed flag

The flag as actually existent and phographed: Funny shades due to either bleeching of manufacture (not a photographic artifact, as the kid on the photo shows in regular colors, as noted), and no emblem (which was clearly added by digital means to the photo afterwards).

Emblem on the flag

[emblem]
image by António Martins, 22 Jun 2008

The exact Spanish wording is (my translation):

Nuestra bandera »(…)« En el centro tiene como un sello, es el sol guaraní, en medio hay una chacra, con sembradíos del maíz.
Our flag »(…)« At the center it has as a seal. It is the Guarany sun, in the middle there is a small farm, with ready for sowing of the maize.
Ned Smith, 23 Apr 2008

On their emblem, the name of this organization is spelled out, with the large sigla reading "A.P.G.I.G.".
António Martins, 22 Jun 2008

Variants and other logos:

  • Other images of official A.P.G. documents show a simpler logo, with only the letters "APG" stacked vertically, instead of full name around maize ear.
  • A different logo reading "APG" is shown also in connection with A.P.G. on line.
  • The same logo (with different lettering "C.C.G.T.") is used on line for Consejo de capitanes guaraní de Tarija (Tarija chieftain council), an organization of which A.P.G. is one of six members.
António Martins, 22 Jun 2008

It struck me that, if the device is redrawn in a monometric fashion, with two symmetry axis, it gains some resemblances with the Inca solar symbol chakana, both visually and topologically.
