The Neenah Yacht Club came into existence in Neenah sometime in or before
1864. The first mention is of it winning the local, Lake Winnebago, championship
in 1863. Lloyd's later lists its starting year as 1864.
In the 1880s
there was an ebb in the clubs activities. In approximately 1894 a different club
was started, that eventually settled on the name Nodaway Yacht Club. This second
club brought in a burgee, which was still used after the two clubs consolidated
in 1905.
It may be this was because there was no longer a real Neenah
Yacht Club to speak of, or they truly could never have used a burgee of their
own. Anyone who has a time machine handy near Lake Winnebago, is welcome to try
and find out.
The burgee is a dark blue broad pennant, bearing an upright
five-pointed white star in its canton.
