Description of the flag

Great Lakes Singlehanded Society (U.S.)
Wisconsin

Estb: ? Location: (HQ) Wauwatosa, WI.
Burgee: Pennant circa 3:5 (web image). White field charged, next to hoist, with a green sail overlapping a red sail both above a stylized yacht hull. The fly charged horizontally with the blue capital letters GLSS.

"Membership in the Society is conveyed only to those individuals who successfully complete one of the following Solo Challenges: Port Huron to Mackinac Island, Chicago to Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie to Duluth, Lake Erie Solo Challenge, Lake Ontario 300 Solo Challenge. The satisfactory completion of any one of these challenges is viewed as a significant individual accomplishment – there are fewer than 300 skippers world-wide who are able to make that claim.”

I contacted the GLSS and they could not help us with the origins, except in telling us they started over 40 years ago. However, they were able to tell us this regarding the colours: "The colors in the burgee are dark blue, medium blue and red."
