The city of Youngstown will soon be flying a flag designed by a 21-year-old Boardman man. At a press conference Monday, Mayor Patrick J. Ungaro introduced the inner and two runner-up in a flag-design contest sponsored by the Youngstown Area Arts Council.

The winner, Anthony Manolio, is a graphic design major at Youngstown State University. His flag includes a stylized skyline of Youngstown in gold against a background in green. "I tried to get some ideas of color to represent a positive image," said Manolio. The runners-up were Tamara Bahr, 21 and Paul Cherol, 24, respectively at YSU. The contest wasn't just limited to YSU students. The three winners were chosen from 41 entries throughout the community.

Manolio will receive $500 for his prize-winning design, and the runners-up will receive $100 each. Ungaro said Manolio's design will be reproduced on flags as soon as the necessary appropriations are made by city council.
