About the flag

It is a fairly typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a plain yellow background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário do Governo : II Série in 1962.07.17, an unusually late date.

The arms are Sable a bunch of grapes Or and on the chief of an orle Vert charged with six fesses wavy Argent a goshawk Proper holding an escutcheon Azure charged with five plates Argent set in saltire. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Santa Cruz da Graciosa".

Presentation of Santa Cruz da Graciosa

Santa Cruz da Graciosa municipality had 4780 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 4 communes covering 60,94 km², taking up the whole of Graciosa (meaning "fair") Island . It is part of Azores Region (also a NUTS II and traditional province), and of former Angra do Heroísmo District. "Santa cruz da Graciosa" means "holy cross of Graciosa".
