Presentation of Reguengos de Monsaraz

Reguengos de Monsaraz Municipality had 11 382 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 5 communes covering 461,22 km². It is part of Évora District, traditional province Alto Alentejo, 1999 ref. adm. region and C.C.R. / NUTS II Alentejo, and NUTS III Alentejo Central.
Reguengos de Monsaraz was seat of a municipality since 1838, when the seat changed from Monsaraz, but definitely since 1851, perhaps because Monsaraz had already been a town. Reguengos de Monsaraz was upgraded to a town in 1840 and to a city on 9 December 2004.
