It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert, a sword Argent guarded and hilted Or,in chief two keys per saltire, one Or bendwise over another Argent sinister-bendwise, both tied Argent, in base two maces Or per saltire. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FREGUESIA
DE MACEDO DE CAVALEIROS".
Meaning:
The word "macedo" is a cognate of "maça" (="mace"), and the arms are partly canting for it. However the whole story goes beyond that and was adequately (or so I'm told) covered in a monograph by Pedro Barbosa and Carlos Mendes: "De Macedo a Macedo de Cavaleiros (Via Aljubarrota) : A figura de Martim Gonçalves de Macedo" see: here. The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter.
