Coat of Arms

[ commune CoA] image by António Martins-Tuválkin and Sérgio Horta, 28 Feb 2025

Shield Or chaussé Sable a perfumer´s vase Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "VALE DE BOURO".
Meaning:
The phrase "vale de" means literally "valley of", implying that "Bouro" is a river name. However, there is no such river in Portugal, see list of Portuguese rivers in Portuguese WIKIPEDIA. Thus the coat of arms shows no river of any kind. The arms could also be blazoned as follows: Shield Sable a pile throughout Or charged with a perfumer´s vase Gules. If the pile is meant to represent a valley, then it would be partly canting. Depending on source the shape of the vase is of very different kind. The perfumer´s vase, also called scent bottle is the usual attribute of St. Mary Magdalen. She is not the local patron saint and the parish church is dedicated to St. Martin. But she enjoys a great veneration by the people of Vale de Bouro.
