Here is the B&W photo of a "Queen Victoria" Flag to Niue.
So now we have
3 similar flags being presented to:
1. Queen Makea Takau Ariki of Avarua
& Rarotonga (1888)
2. King Metuakoke Tione Trego Ariki of Mangaia (1888)
3. King Togia Puloutoaki of Niue (about 1888).
It must have been a common
gift as we now have 3 similar flags, the flag is the "Union Jack" with a white
border on all 4 sides, with a coloured head & bust of Queen Victoria painted in
the hoist.
In this photo is "King Dick" (the Prime Minister of New
Zealand) and King Togia who reigned 30th June 1896 until NZ annexation in 1901,
the King died in 1917, Niue was a non-hereditary monarchy.

This detail of the hoist of the Queen Makea flag was photographed by Prof.
Michel Lupant (President of F.I.A.V.) in 2006 when he visited the Cook Is.
