As we learn from the link above, the coat of arms/flag are newer then the [c2j87]
and even the [c2j88]. However, Larvik is
mentioned in the first...
It depicts a coat of arms: argent a leaved tree issuant from a mount vert. It is known
from 1899 from a calendar issue. It reminds to an element from the seal of Jens
Kielman, a state official in Larvik. A tree was used in town seal in 1830s, but
other version of the seal were also in use (cf.

Obviously, new coat of arms was approved on 20 January 1989, after Larvik was joined with
surrounding municipalities of Brunlanes, Hedrum, Stavern, Tjølling.
By the way, three of these had theirown coat of arms prior to 1988: Brunlanes - azure twelve
plates 3-4-5, adopted on 29 August 1985 but not approved by the issue of
[c2j87], because of the planned joining of the municipalities. Drawn by Kjell
Ronald Hansen.
Hedrum - vert a bend wavy argent. (På grønn bunn en sølv skråbjelke dannet ved
bolgesnitt), approved bys royal resolution of 18 November 1966, drawn by D.
Krohn-Holm Jr.
Tjølling. - Azure two longships argent (På blå bunn to sølv langskip) approved
by royal resolution of 7 May 1971, H. Traetteberg.

Issuant from a mount vert is the default for a tree in heraldry. That's why
it's necessary to write 'eradicated' when it's really just the tree.
