Posterholt former municipality
Posterholt is a former municipality in Limburg province, since 1991 part
of the municipality of Ambt Montfort.
For Posterholt we showed a 5-striped flag. This is based on text and
image in Sierksma's Nederlands Vlaggenboek (1962). However the designer,
Mr. Kl. Sierksma, specified: "rectangular, proportioned 2:3, consisting
of six horizontal stripes of equal height in the colors white, blue, white,
blue, white, blue". Adopted by municiopal resolution 18 Jun 1962
The flag is identical to the municipal arms, granted 25 Jan 1955: per
fess of six pieces of argent and azure; the shield surmounted by a crown
of three leaves and two pearls.
The arms remind of the middle of the 13th century, when Posterholt
formed one parish with Vlodrop. The two villages had one "schepenbank"(sheriff's
bench), where law was administered. Even then a shield was used of blue
and white fesses. These fesses are also used on the arms of Vlodrop.
