Warkum town (Workum) [former municipality]
Workum is one of the 11 Frisian cities, in southwest Friesland; a small
town dominated by a big Roman Catholic church. It was an old harbor, which
was never as important as Stavoren. Since
1984 it is part of the municipality of Nijefurd.
The flag was adopted 6 June 1957. It first appeared on the flagchart
of Hesman (1708); the colors were derived from the municipal Coat of Arms.
