Located in Hikone City Shiga Prefecture and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial flag is indigo blue with a gold-colored emblem in the center and horizontally written in gold kanji university name and a gold fringe. The embroidered ceremonial flag was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the university and was part of the same commemorative project. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Shiga University's founding, the university asked Tetsuo Akiyama, then professor at the Faculty of Education (now professor emeritus), to create the emblem, and the decision was made at the April 25, 2000 council meeting. The emblem symbolically expresses as much as possible the image of Shiga University, which is blessed with a rich natural environment centering on Lake Biwa and is a center of academics and culture in Shiga Prefecture. The color indigo blue symbolizes the rich lake water of Lake Biwa, as well as a deep, pure heart and a clear, unclouded image.
