Remarks on 1865 Flag Chart

An anonymus painter writes on his flag chart of 1865 a few remarks as follows:
"I have been unable to obtain reliable information regarding the colours of the flags of the realms of Aceh and Trumon. Some sources indicate that the flag of Aceh is black, while that one of Trumon is red. For the most part, this aligns with what is depicted on this map.
In Riau, almost every prince and dignitary possesses a distinct, personal flag—one that is subject to frequent change.
In all other locations not mentioned here, the Dutch flag is used as a merchant flag; this is the case, for instance, in the Moluccas. The flags illustrated for these respective localities are those typically flown by the local chieftains."
