The municipality of Palaio Faliro (64,021 inhabitants in 2011, 457 ha) is situated on the east coast of the Phalerum Bay, a bay of the Saronic Gulf, 6 km southwest of Athens city centre.
The municipality was not changed with the 2011 local government reform.

Palaio Faliro takes its name from Phalerum, the main port of Ancient Athens before the port of Piraeus was developed in the 5th century BC.
