The municipality of Santo Domingo Caudilla (1,024 inhabitants in 2016; 5,400 ha) is located 50 km north-west of Toledo. The municipality is composed of the villages of Val de Santo Domingo and Caudilla (depopulated).
Val de Santo Domingo is the birth place of the road racing cyclist Federico Martín Bahamontes (b. 1928). Nicknamed the Eagle of Toledo, Bahamontes won the Tour de France in 1959; he was the first cyclist to win the mountains classification in the three Grand Tours: Tour de France (1954, 1958, 1959, 1962-1964), Giro d'Italia (1956) and Vuelta a España (1957-1958). He was named in 2013 (100th edition of the Tour de France) the Tour's Greatest Climber; his statue designed by the sculptor Javier Molina Gil, was inaugurated on 6 May 2018 in Toledo (photo).
The castle of Caudilla (presentation) was built in the 15th century by Pedro de Rivadeneira, Marshal of Castile. The fortress remained loyal to John II during his struggle with Álvaro de Luna. Henry IV left the castle with 100 knights to submit th town of Toledo, which had taken the party of Infante Alfonso.

The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, composed of equal vertical bretessed stripes, at hoist, red with a white well, at hoist, white.

Coat of arms: Vert a well with ring argent. A bordure argent a rosary sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
