Scheyern Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield Azure, parted abased by a fess dancetty Or superimposing a double cross Argent.
Meaning:
The municipal arms are based upon the seal of the Benedictine Scheyern Monastery, which was founded in 1119 by the Wittelsbach kin in its local castle in Scheyern. The monastery had been seat of a widely extended district (Bavarian: Hofmark) until 1803. The monastery was refounded in 1838. The fess dancetty displays the oldest arms of the Counts of Wittelsbach-Scheyern and was in use as seal during the rule of Duke Ludwig of Bayern and his son Otto between 1216 and 1230. As a distinguishing mark the double cross of the convent of the monastery was added in the 2nd half of the 17th century. It is a representation of the patriarchal cross, which keeps a relic in the chapel of the Sacred Cross.
