Sulzthal gained the rights of market town in 1472, granted by the Counts of Henneberg. A seal with the current pattern in a Renaissance shield and a circumscrption "Flecken" (another word for market town) is known since the 2nd half of the 16th century. In the 17th century a smaller version was made. Since 1820 the existence of a seal was completely forgotten.
