Shield parted per fess, at dexter Argent a demi-eagle Gules armed Or and couped per pale; at sinister Argent with base Vert, issuant from base three hop poles Vert with hops plants Vert.
Meaning:
The oldest city seals from 1309 and 1327 more or less already displayed the current pattern. In the 14th century there had been several breweries in the city. In the beginning there had been five rough poles, later the had been refined and their number decreased to four or currently three, which is the same as in a sculpture from 1553 on top of the city gate to Stendal. The base in the sinister half was added after 1996. The eagle is the Brandenburgian one, as the Altmark (German for "old march") was the oldest possession of Brandenburg.
