On 1 January 2010 the new commune of Bregaglia was formed through the merger of Bondo, Castasegna, Soglio, Stampa and Vicosoprano (see below). The new commune is identical with the former Bregaglia circle, and adopted its emblem.

The tree on the flag of Castasegna is a chestnut-tree. The connection between the
chestnut-tree (castagno in Italian) and the name of the commune is obvious but
there's no evidence of canting arms according to the book. The chestnut-tree appeared on a seal of this
municipality in the 19th century.
Pascal Gross, 5 October 2001
[I can't follow Pascal/the book here. For me the connection between castagno and Castasegna is given, which makes the emblem canting. As usual in Switzerland, flag and arms are identical.]
