The "Cégep Vert du Québec" program was started in autumn 2004 by the "ENvironnement
JEUnesse association" (in English, "Environment Youth", "enjeu" meaning "stake")
for the certification of environment-aware cégeps ("vert" means "green" in
French). A cégep ("Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel") is a
post-secondary education institution exclusive to the Province of Quebec. There
are today 29 certified cégeps in Quebec, two of them (Rosemont and
Saint-Laurent) with the "excellence" award.

On 29
May 2008, ENvironnement JEUnesse unveiled in Montreal the list of the certified
cégeps, which were granted a distinctive flag. The flag is white with the logo
of the "Cégep Vert du Québec" program, made of a stylized white fleur-de-lis on
a blue background (recalling the flag of Quebec), a green leaf, and, on the
right side of the emblem, the writing Cégep / Vert / du Québec in black letters.
A photography of the flag awarded to the Alma cégep is shown by "LE bulletin
Régional Saguenay-Saint-Jean", 2 June 2008.
