The municipality of Mandaguari (34,281 inhabitants in 2018; 33,582 ha) is
located 400 km north-west of Curutiba.
The coat of arms [and, most
probably, the flag] of Mandaguari is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 317
promulgated in 1980.
Article 19.
The coat of arms of the municipality
of Mandaguari, designed by heraldist and vexillologist Arcinoé Antonio Peixoto
de Faria, is described as follows.
Classic Flemish Iberian shield surmounted
by an eight-towered mural crown argent ports gules (red). On a field argent
(silver) a bee gules (red) a chief azure (blue) with three-fleurs-de-lis argent
(silver) in base a fess wavy azure (blue). A scroll gules (red) inscribed in
letters argent with the toponym "MANDAGUARI".
The coat of arms has the
following interpretation.
a) The classical Flemish-Iberian shield used to
represent the arms of Mandaguari was the first shield style adopted in the
Iberian Peninsula of Germanic origin, also nicknamed Portuguese shield,
recalling our Lusitanian origin.
b) The bee makes the arms canting since "Mandaguari"
means "an industrious bee'.
c) The chief azure (blue) charged with three
fleurs-de-lis argent (silver) is the symbol of Our Lady of th Apparition, the
municipality's patron saint.
d) In base the fess wavy azure (blue) symbolizes
the municipality's hydrographic resources.
e) The shield is supported by
coffee branches fructed proper, which identify the greatest economic strength of
the municipality offered by the generous and fertile soil.
f) Gules (red) is
a symbol of intrepidity, courage and valiance, a quality that identifies the
pioneers.
g) Azure (blue) is a symbol of justice, nobleness, perseverance,
zeal, loyalty, recreation and beauty.
h) The argent metal (silver) is a
symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity and religious feeling.
