"GBCA traces its origin back
to 1947 when a small group of sailboat racing enthusiasts informally
organized the club. The club existed and prospered as a letter head
organization, without elected officers, bylaws, dues, or a home. The
Club was formally organized in 1954 with elected officials, bylaws and
handicap races. The Friday night Rum Races are some of the most popular
races run on Galveston Bay.”
