On 2024-03-02, Minnesota United FC fans performed a tifo
(choreographed display of a team-related image) at their home stadium, Allianz
Field in Saint Paul [1, 2]. The display was inspired by the team's newly
introduced "Starry Sky" home kit [3]. Its central element was a banner derived
from the new state flag by arranging its
elements vertically, replacing the dark blue color with black, changing the
number of star points into six so as to match the team logo and adding numerous
small discs to the black field so as to resemble the starry night sky. It was
placed between two black banners, each bearing many more "stars" and a half of
the inscription: "For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight
of the stars makes me dream". The colors of the central banner happen to be
those of a state flag variation which was already proposed for the Minnesota
United FC fans [4]. Whether this will be followed by a more widespread use of a
"customized" variant of the state flag, is yet to be seen.

The logo displays the loon, the Minnesota state bird, in black and red, over
a blue stripe which represents the Mississippi river; the stripe is placed
between two gray fields, which stand for the Iron Range region of Minnesota; the
six-pointed star in the canton, depicted in the same shade of gray, stands for
the North Star from the state motto. The loon is depicted as having eleven
feathers in its wing, corresponding to the number of the players on the pitch.
The initials MNUFC are the abbreviation for "Minnesota United Football Club".

The North Star Flag has been widely used by the supporters of Minnesota
United.who might have been its greatest promoters [1, 2]. In addition to the
unchanged design, a customized variation has also been widely used: the star has
six rays and is depicted in silver color, while the original dark blue, white
and green colors are replaced with gray, light blue and black, respectively [1,
2]. The shade of gray color is medium to dark gray, while silver is intended to
be a very light shade of gray, although it often looks white in the photos. All
of the above colors, including white, have been used as the team kit colors, the
actual design of which has been changed yearly, with the presence of colors
varying [3].
