Friedens is a census-designated place located within the Somerset Township in Somerset County.

The community flag was included on a newspaper clippet from 2012.

In 1974 Friedens resident Lester Griffith and his art teacher Paul D. Beal researched and designed a flag, which was approved by the Somerset County commissioners and became the official county flag.
Thirty-right years later while visiting the area in 2012, Griffith, who now lives in Mesa, Arizona, was presented the flag by county commissioners.
Several Years ago Griffith got the Idea to design a flag for his hometown of Friedens. He worked on several renditions and together with some other Friedens natives finalized the design.
Much thought was put into the design. Griffith wanted it to depict historical and famous points of interest about Friedens. His flag includes the IXL Creamery, and Father John C.F. Heyer, who was the first Lutheran missionary to Indian. The flag will be carried during the Independence Day parade in town on Thursday. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at the former creamery property.

Notes: the flag also includes references to the fourth of July parade from 1944 as well as the Friedens Fire Department, which was founded in 1931.
