The Flag

Description of the flag

The flag is a blue field with a red crescent moon in the center. Inside the moon is the establishment year, and a ring of stars encircling the moon. The flag was adopted in 1973 after a flag contest held by the board of supervisors. The only archived news article on the flag was the notice for a flag design competition, as well as the new municipal building dedication by The Beaver County Times. I was also given a photo of the flag by the township themselves.

Crescent County Commissioners are sponsering a contest to select a design for an official township flag. David Hays, commissioner, is director and lists the following rules for participants

  1. The contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve in any private or public school who are residents of the township.
  2. Each student may submit up to five entries. Each must have the student's name, home address and phone number placed on the back of the design.
  3. All entries are to be submitted on white drawing paper 12 inches by 18 inches in size.
  4. Entries may be submitted in water color, tempora or colored ink.
  5. The dssign should be attractive, simple and have historical or current meaning to the township. A written explanation may be attached to each.
  6. All designs must be submitted to the office of the township secretary no later than April 1.

Representatives of Riverside Presbyterian Church, Glenwillard Methodist Church, St. Catherine Catholic Church, Crescent Volunteer Fire Company, Harper Village Women's Club, Civic Club, the Ladies' Auxiliary to Crescsnt Township Fire Department, Bon Meade and Glenwillard Parent Teacher Clubs and the board of commissioners will judge the entries.

Along with that, the other article by The Beaver County Times is one where the flag is shown inside the Township's new municipal building, which was dedicated on September 29. No information on who designed the flag was found.
