Flag Description

This version of the flag has been brought to conferences of the Mississippi Municipal League from 2012 to 2018. Here is the 2014 photo. https://www.facebook.com/msmunicipalleague/photos/a.818459258173570/818460331506796

I assume it's the official flag. It is white, with the seal centered.

Red Flag

Brookhaven is a city located in Lincoln County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,861. It is the county seat of Lincoln County. It was named after the Town of Brookhaven, New York, by founder Samuel Jayne, in 1818.

By: MATTHEW COLEMAN, DAILY LEADER Managing Editor December 21, 2005:

A flag for the City of Brookhaven and appointments to various city boards highlighted Tuesday's meeting of the mayor and board of aldermen. Following a brief discussion at the last meeting, aldermen last night approved a revised design for a city flag. "I think it'd be good to have a flag," said Mayor Bob Massengill in presenting options for a new city banner. The new flag features a red field with a red, white and blue emblem that borrows from the Chamber of Commerce's stylized "B" logo. In white letters across the bottom of the flag is "Homeseeker's Paradise." "I would want us to find places to display it," Massengill said of the flag. The mayor said it could be flown outside the Government Complex and carried during the Parade of Flags at the annual Mississippi Municipal League gathering. Massengill did not have a cost estimate or an idea of how long it would take to have the flag made. Aldermen said the new flag design looked nice. They said an earlier suggestion, which had the Chamber logo on a white field, was too plain.

According to Therese Apel, "The Daily Leader", 13 October 2008, the background of the flag was changed from red to white:
"[...] The new shipment of white Brookhaven license plates is in, City Clerk Mike Jinks said, and are being sold for $5 in his office. The new license plate design differs from a previous one that was based on the city's original red flag, which has since been changed to a white background. He said the new design came from a combination of factors. "We needed to get away from the red flags because they faded so bad, so we took the idea we had for our city lapel pins and put that on the white background and put it on the flag," he said.
[...]
When the city flag made its debut, it was immediately popular, but somewhat cost prohibitive for just anyone to have one, Jinks said. So that's where the idea of the car tags was born. [...]"

I assume that the new change is only the background color. So, we have an idea how the logo looks like: www.brookhavenchamber.com/index.php.

Brookhaven has since put up a website. The front page shows the city officials and behind them the flag. The red flag, to be precise: http://brookhavenms.com/wp

Unfortunately there are two obstacles in copying the flag: Three sets of overhead lights and a flash are reflected in the flag's frame glass. They mostly obscure parts of the logo, which we known from the Chamber of Commerce. However, two City Officials who are in the way, together with the reflection of the flash, also obscure most of the motto at the bottom. Their motto of "Homeseeker's Paradise" would seem to fit, if with a narrow script, but there's not much to go on regarding the font, except that it's an italic with rather curly capitals.

I realise now that the secondary flag, beside the S&S as the primary one, is not the state flag, but is a white flag with a logo that may well be the same as the logo on the red flag. This flag may be the [same design as the red flag] with a different colour background after all. So, the red flag in the background is apparently framed as a memorial piece, while the white is the flag in use.
