To bring unity to the city of Bull Shoals, Gary Heimbach suggested that a flag design contest be held. By September 30, 2024, the contest had received 81 submissions, upon which 186 residents of Marion and Baxter counties voted. The 5 most popular designs were reviewed by a group of 5 judges who were chosen for their community leadership and integrity: Mr. Heimbach, Mayor Carol Duss, VFW Commander Brian Jones; Sami’s Art and More owner Sami Castagna, Bull Shoals-White River Chamber of Commerce President Tim Koenig, and State Representative Jason Nazarenko. After only 15 minutes, the judges unanimously chose a flag designed by Bull Shoals native Allison Wiseman of Lakeview. The design of Ms. Wiseman was inspired by the view off the west side of Bull Shoals Dam and shows the sunset over the White River, Bull Mountain, and the iconic Top O’ the Ozarks lookout tower. The flag was adopted by the city council on November 21. As the flag was presented to Mayor Duss, Mr. Heimbach proclaimed, “May this flag serve as a beacon of pride and inspiration for generations to come. And may it remind us all that, together, we can accomplish anything. Congratulations, Bull Shoals, your flag has officially been raised!”
