The seal shows the top of the Alabama Capitol Building, as Montgomery, the state capitol is located in the county. Under the capitol building is the Alabama River and a pair of leaves. The seal as an additional ring with text at the bottom stating "A County Older than the State," This is because Montgomery County was established in 1816 when it was a part of the Mississippi Territory. Alabama would become it's own territory a year later in 1817, and then a full state in 1819.
