The Coat of Arms consists of a green ring with a knot tied at the upper end of the ring. On the top is the inscription ‘Repubulika Y’U Rwanda’ and below is the national motto ‘UBUMWE, UMURIMO, GUKUNDA IGIHUGU’ or ‘UNITY, WORK, PATRIOTISM.’ Other features of the Coat of Arms are the sun, sorghum and coffee, a basket, a cog wheel and two shields.
The green ring and knot symbolise industrial development through hard work. The shields symbolise patriotism, defence of national sovereignty and integrity and justice.

The center of the Rwandan Coat of Arms shows a traditional basket that is a gift of friendship among the Rwandese. Often times they are given with successively smaller baskets inside one another, similar to Russian dolls. When given at a wedding, it is symbolic of family values and the promises kept within the house (note the lid on the basket).

The Coat of Arms has the vexillology rope knot at its base. I know this is not in reference to our object of infatuation though, but it's nice seeing it there.

Roundel of yellow-red-yellow-green in Album 2000.
This must be some later development, as Cochrane & Elliott' Military Aircraft Insignia of the World does not mention it, but gives simple red-yellow-green roundel, and "sometimes" national flag on the fin.

I guess that info is probably obsolete and new markings were adopted with new flag.
The "Force Aérienne Rwandaise" was formed in 1972 and operates 4-6 helicopters.

Does anyone know Rwanda airforce aircraft marking has changed with the introduction of the new flag?

To answer Nozomi Kariyasu questions in August and September of 2006, there is no new roundel that I could spot for their (very small) air force. It appears that the national flag is used - as can be seen here.
