According to Sérgio Horta it is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field (see left image), according to Rio Maior municipal webpage the flag is quartered of green and white (see right image). The latter is the newer one, different from current flag only by number of visible towers, i.e three towers.

Shield Argent, a dolmen Azure topped by a crosslet of the same, in dexter chief a flagon Vert, in sinister chief a crow´s head Sable armed and eyed Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers on both flags (town rank) and short white scroll, in Bénard-Guedes style, with inscription in black initials "ALCOBERTAS".
Meaning:
The flagon is an attribute of St. Mary Magdalene, the local patron saint.

Alcobertas is one of the 14 communes of Rio Maior Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 1923 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 32,0 km².
