Coat of arms

Shield Gules, a bar wavy Argent, charged with a barrulet wavy Azure, in chief a bladed wheel Or at dexter and a windmill's wheel Sable rigged Argent at sinister, in base two olive branches Or, fruited Argent, in saltire. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SANTA CATARINA DA SERRA" or "VILA DE SANTA CATARINA DA SERRA"-
Meaning:
The bladed wheel is an attribute of St. Catherine, local patron saint and name giver of the commune.

It was a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field. The coat of arms was the same as current but with mural crown having just three visible towers.

Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Azure, a hound passant Argent tongued Gules, carrying a palm leaf Or by his right foreleg, in chief a royal coronet. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "CHAINÇA - LEIRIA".
