Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.

The arms are Azure an olive branch Argent fruited Or per bend and crossing the base of its stem at the hilt a sword Argent hilted Or per bend sinister, in chief a Corinthian column's capital Or, on base wavy Argent two barrulets wavy Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BARREIRA - LEIRIA".
Meaning:
"Barreira" means "clay pit", absent from the arms, which symbolize instead the local roman archeological remains, oliviculture, its historical strategical importance as a defense of Leiria city, and the local river Lena and its tributaries, according to this webpage.

Meaning:
The wheel is symbolizing the connection between Cortes and the Lis river, by traditional technology of elevating water. Cage and coronet are attributes of Our Lady of the Birdcage, the local patron saint. The open book is symbolizing cultural activities. The blue colour of the shield is representing justice, beauty, gentleness, nobility, endurance, zeal and loyalty.
