Lamego (Almacave e Sé) Commune is one of the four communes of Lamego Municipality created by a merger during the 2013 changes. It had 12071 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 20,20 km².
12000 people in this commune while none other so far in this municipality reaches even one thousand — that is noteworthy: Indeed these two former communes shared territorially two halves of Lamago city and each a slice of the surrounding countryside (plus 2-3 small villages in it): Almacave was the northwestern half and Sé was the rest; the boundary line, crossed through the city center. Note that neither of these two communes used the word "Lamego" in its name, even though Sé, which means (sort of) Cathedral, had to resort to constant disambiguation as "Sé (Lamego)" or "Lamego (Sé)" etc. due to ten other synonym communes in Portugal) At the same time, the other 22 "rural" communes comprised territorially each one village or town as the nominal communal seat and zero or more additional villages, plus some surrounding countryside.
When the two "urban" communes were merged into one, the Frankenstein name that was the hallmark of those 2012-2013 changes got parenthesised next to the city name to create the new official communal toponym.
