In use is a different coat of arms as follows:
Shield Argent a push cart Gules, on central chief a milestone Azure, flanked by a pair of triplets of rye ears Or in fan tied Gules, on base a bar wavy Azure, charged with a barrulet wavy Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and short white scroll, in Bénard Guedes style, reading in black upper case serifed letters "RIO DOURO".

Meaning:
The arms in use are surely not even proposed by the CHAAP. The wavy charge on its base, and the base wavy of the proposed arms are a representation of the name giving river, which is sometimes considered to be "the golden river". Furthermore the arms in use don´t match heraldic rules, because they display golden rye ears on a silver background (metal on metal).

Symbols proposed by CHAAP on 22 October 2003, symbols in use never approved officially
