It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Shield Argent, a thorn crown Gules between two grape bunches Purpure leafed Vert, in base two pilgrim staffs with their gourds Gules set per saltire. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "ESPINHO - BRAGA".
Meaning:
"Espinho" means litterally "thorn"; the arms are partly canting.
